I started at 66/1. I haven't moved, as obviously no one wants to back me. I can't blame them!

I got Matt Russell @ 125/1 - he's now down to 80/1. Looks like he's had a fair bit of action.

Yes - of course there is. For example, let's take a marathon. You have to pay to enter, unless you are an elite athlete who have their places paid for. Horse racing - the owners and trainers have to pay to enter races.

Not sure I understand why the fact you have to buy-in would make a difference. In fact, surely it would make it more competitive?

Is there a "buy in" for football, tennis or chess tournaments?

Yes, well observed. At least I wear my belt like a man.

Anyway, the point was that betting on players in a poker tournament is the same as betting on other games/sports tournaments.

Erm... not quite the same. They all use balls - apart from chess - that uses "pieces" of course! No other sport uses chips apart from poker. Draughts look a bit like chips, as do back-gammon pieces - but they're not the same. ;-)

People aren't betting money in a poker tournament.

It's chips they're playing with. So it's just the same as a tennis tournament, chess tournament, football tournament..

I'm not sure I want to bet money on an event where people will be betting money. It's wrong on so many levels.
