Top 5 – 1970s & 80s Kids TV Programmes

The reason for creating this Top 5 five is the amount of memories, arguments, laughter and tears that this particular subject has generated in the office over the past couple of days. So rather than let it cool off and fade away I thought I’d capture it here for posterity.

Below – my top 5 TV shows from my youth – with links to theme tune vids (I hope these bring back some memories):

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

  1. Chorlton and the Wheelies
  2. Jamie and the Magic Torch
  3. Bod
  4. Rhubarb and Custard
  5. Ivor the Engine

They're my Top 5 - what are yours?

Interesting list. I’m afraid I can’t come up with a top 5, only a top 10 - we must have had a better quality of kids programmes in the 70’s -)

1. The Double Deckers
2. Casey Jones
3. Fireball XL5
4. Skippy
5. Bill & Ben
6. The Tomorrow People
7. Marine Boy
8. Cracker Jack
9. The Herbs
10. The Clangers

Most of the theme tunes can be found at http://www.televisiontunes.com/

Loved both of the following when I was a nipper:

Dogtanian and the three muskahounds
Mysterious Cities of Gold

Class in a glass, on toast.

Ian - “The tomorrow people” - I forgot all about that one - that was special and scary at the same time. Unlike “Gentle-Ben”, which is another I’ve just remembered, that was just a bit odd!

Bev - in my mind there was something remarkably similar about Mysterious Cities of Gold and Ulysses - perhaps it was the animation and dubbing?

I think all 80s cartoons were drawn by 1 Korean artist who was basically locked in a basement and worked around the clock. It would certainly explain a lot.
